Hey, everyone. I noticed the Wombats have some of the most interesting topics on Gather. Don't know why it took so long to join, but I'm looking forward to getting to know the members better.

Hi, new here. I met Judi Fennell at the RT Booklovers convention, and she had a lot of good things to say about this group. I had to check it out.

Does anyone have and experience with “publish on demand” companies such as PublishAmerica? They have offered to publish my book but I am concerned that since it will not be in the book store no one will every see it and therefore no one will buy it.
Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks JC

My writer's group did a POD book as a tribute to a deceased memeber so he could be published. (Push slow writers, remind them things can happen without notice.) If you are willing to sell it yourself it can be OK. But remeber that the company might hold the copyright to your book for years. That could prevent you from later selling the book or story to a main stream publisher.

Hi, Joseph! I agree with Joyce's comments, and I also reccommend The Fine Art of Self-Publishing (Mark Levine). It compares all the major POD companies. Bookstores, like Barnes & Noble, carry your book based on in-store sales. Plus, indie bookstores will take your book--after review--on consignment basis. Hope this helps! Of course, by now, you may have a published novel. ~Kim
